Congratulations on being admitted to NIU! Choosing where you go to college is a life-changing decision, and we're confident that NIU is the right school for you. Follow these important steps to make your transition to NIU an easy one.

    Confirm Your Admission

    Join Your Facebook Group

    Check Your Student Email Account

    • Your student email account uses the same Z-ID and password as your MyNIU account.
    • You'll receive an email with log-in information at your preferred email address.
    • We'll send important information to your student email, so check it often.

    Please note: If you receive an email in your student account about the Huskie First Survey, please complete it as soon as possible.

    Register for and Attend Orientation

    • You're required to attend orientation, and we’re offering it virtually for your convenience if you’ve been admitted!
    • Log in to MyNIU to register, pay your confirmation fee and complete the Pre-Orientation Program so you’re ready to attend.
    • Watch for an email overview of orientation in your student account, and sign up early so you get the class schedule you want.

    Sign Up for Housing and Pick Your Room

    Determine Your Placement Exam Needs

    • Please click on placement exams. If your major requires a placement exam, you should complete the exam prior to your orientation date.
    • It is to your advantage to take any necessary placement exam(s) as early as possible.
    • Review ALEKS Mathematics, Chemistry, Foreign Language, and Writing placement information to determine which exam(s) may be needed. To determine if you need ALEKS Math and/or Chemistry placement exams, make sure you view the list of majors that require these exams. Please view the Literacy Course Recommendations.
    • You may also be eligible for credit by examination.

    Submit Your Immunization Information

    Learn About Student Health Insurance

    • You're required to have health insurance.
    • Use NIU's student health insurance, or opt out if you're covered by another plan.
