Admitted Student Checklist

• Log in to MyNIU to reserve your spot using your Z-ID and password.

• Meet fellow Huskies on your class's Facebook page. You might find your future roommate! 
  • Incoming freshmen should join the NIU Class of 2025 Admitted Students Group.
  • Incoming transfers should join the transfer2niu2021 group.
• If your Facebook name isn't your full name, be sure to private message an administrator of our group and provide your Z-ID number or full name and date of birth.

• Your student email account uses the same Z-ID and password as your MyNIU account.
• You'll receive an email with log-in information at your preferred email address.
• We'll send important information to your student email, so check it often.

Please note: If you receive an email in your student account about the Huskie First Survey, please complete it as soon as possible.

• You're required to attend orientation, and we’re offering it virtually for your convenience if you’ve been admitted!
• Log in to MyNIU to register, pay your confirmation fee and complete the Pre-Orientation Program so you’re ready to attend.
• Watch for an email overview of orientation in your student account, and sign up early so you get the class schedule you want.

• Fill out the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), if you haven't already.
• Check MyScholarships. You may be eligible for scholarships through your major department or college.
• Contact the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office with any questions.

• Submit a housing contract as early as possible.
• Compare residence halls.
• Log in on your assigned date to choose your room.

• Please click on placement exams. If your major requires a placement exam, you should complete the exam prior to your orientation date.
• It is to your advantage to take any necessary placement exam(s) as early as possible.
• Review ALEKS Mathematics, Chemistry, Foreign Language, and Writing placement information to determine which exam(s) may be needed. To determine if you need ALEKS Math and/or Chemistry placement exams, make sure you view the list of majors that require these exams. Please view the Literacy Course Recommendations.
• You may also be eligible for credit by examination.

• Students taking classes on campus must comply with the Illinois College Immunization Code.
• Contact the Office of Immunization Compliance and Medical Records with any questions.

• You're required to have health insurance.
• Use NIU's student health insurance, or opt out if you're covered by another plan.
