Gregory Barrett

Professor

Gregory Barrett, D.M., professor of clarinet, is a Buffet Group Artist and editor of reviews for The Clarinet. He has performed and taught in Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Norway, Spain, throughout the U.S. and with the Lahti (Finland) Sinfonia Chamber Ensemble in Vienna's Musikverein. His arrangement of Jean Sibelius's En Saga Septet is available from Breitkopf & Härtel. Gérard Billaudot Éditeur has published his 24 Clarinet Etudes from the World – advanced concert etudes in all keys each based upon folk material from a different country and The Three Shepherds Rock (with apologies to Franz Schubert).

Barrett takes special delight in the achievements of his students who have performed in groups such as the Beijing Symphony Orchestra and U.S. military bands or have gone on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music, University of Kansas, University of Missouri – Kansas City and Yale University or are teaching at colleges or public schools. Since 2000, four clarinet studio members have been winners in the NIU Concerto Competition, including two premiere winners.
