B.S. in Mechatronics Engineering

To meet the industry demand and keep pace with fast-advancing technologies, mechatronics engineering becomes an emerging field and serves as a new addition to College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) programs. Students in the mechatronics engineering program gain hands-on learning experiences from faculty who utilize research-led teaching methods to convey global views. As a mechatronics engineering major, you'll learn to design and create smart machines that are aware of their surroundings and can make decisions by themselves. These smart machines are developed by mechatronics engineers as integrations of mechanical systems, sensing and actuation, artificial intelligence-enabled control systems, computer hardware and software as well as the internet of things.

As a mechatronics engineer you will start and grow your career in a global industry dealing with developing intelligent machines and systems, futuristic robots, drones and vehicles, challenging defense technology and revolutionizing consumer products. You may also work in smaller innovative companies making state-of-the-art mechatronics supplies and materials. Graduates of the mechatronics engineering program may also be employed by research entities exploring opportunities in cutting-edge fields including, but not limited to nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, biotech, auto-driving and aerospace. Mechatronics engineering careers are multi-faceted in an employment market that is wide open, fruitful and rewarding.

Courses

Your coursework will combine mechatronics, electrical, mechanical and industrial engineering. You'll apply what you've learned in our extensive laboratories. In addition to sharing the state-of-the-art laboratory facilities with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and industrial and systems engineering programs, the mechatronics engineering program has set a plan to build a specific mechatronics engineering lab and facility which are of multidisciplinary and include an integrated engineering feature. Industry-sponsored research equipment and teaching laboratories are being established in an existing Omron Lab space at CEET.
