Xu Group Highlights


  • Dr. Xu's oral presentation "Cold Thoughts on Perovskite Fever" was awarded as the "Best Presentation" in the Energy and Fuel Session at the the 252nd ACS National Meeting in Philadelphia in August 2016. Dr. Xu was also invited to deliver our group's research work at various institutes recently including Department of Chemistry, University of South Florida (Nov. 3, 2016), College of Chemistry, Soochow University (Dec. 15, 2016), Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science (Dec. 19, 2016), Department of Chemical and Bio molecular Engineering, University of Connecticut (Feb. 23, 2017) and Department of Physics, Northern Illinois University (Mar. 10, 2017).
  • Congratulations to Dr. Heather M. Barkholtz who graduated in May 2016 with a Ph.D. in Chemistry. With several offers from various prestigious National Labs, Heather accepted the post‐doctoral position at Sandia National Laboratory to continue her academic career as a woman chemist.

  • Graduate student Zhenzhen Yang has been selected by Argonne National Laboratory to attend the 2011 Neutron X‐ray Scattering School. Selection is extremely competitive with attendees from top schools in the nation. Zhenzhen was selected based on her outstanding academic performance.
  • Dr. Xu has been appointed by the NIU Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies to serve as a member of the Executive Committee for the Institute for Nano Science, Engineering and Technology (InSET).

  • Graduate student Chi‐Kai Lin was selected by Argonne's Division of Educational Programs to attend the 2010 Neutron X‐ray Scattering School. This is a special two‐week intense training program provided by both Argonne National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The selection process was highly competitive and students chosen are mainly from the Nation's top universities. Chi‐Kai was selected based on his outstanding academic performance. He is now a certified user at Argonne's Advanced Photon Source and will also conduct our research projects at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the near future.
  • Dr. Xu was selected as a recipient of the NIU Outstanding Mentor Award (2010).
  • Dr. Xu has been invited to present the group's work by various institutions, including Purdue University, Sourthern Illinois University at Edwardsville, University of Illinois at Chicago, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, University of Utah, National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science etc. (2008–2010).
