Web Presence Project

Frequently Asked Questions

Why develop an NIU Web Presence?

For many who visit our website, it is the main – and often the only – channel of communication they have with NIU. The patchwork of pages that make-up the NIU website has conflicting designs, navigation systems and naming conventions – all of which make it difficult for the user to find the information they need. A "web presence" ensures a consistent look and feel throughout the site and gives the user a sense of cohensiveness and stability that makes it easier to navigate and locate information.

Who can use the new Web Presence templates?

Any academic or administrative department can use the templates. Within the template system, there are a variety of content layout options which accommodate the use of photographs, wordmarks and page configurations to meet your needs.

Am I giving up control of my website?

No. You control the content on your site. The Web Presence templates enable you to focus on the content instead of the design. The Web Team can assist you with content migration, page configuration, photography, training and usability testing.

How do I begin the process?

Fill out the template request form.

What kind of support will I have in using the templates?

Following the assessment and navigation architecture phases of the process, the Web Team can provide as much or as little support as you need with regard to content migration, page configuration, photography, usability testing and more.

Once your site has been converted to the Web Presence templates, the Web Team can provide support and training on maintaining the site using WebCRMA. For more information on training for specific elements of the Web Presence templates, see our Training page.
