Academic Support Services

  • The Academic Advising Center works with students who are undecided about their major, seeking alternative major, or reassessing their current academic situation
  • Faculty and staff advisers are available in each college and department to provide accurate information on academic programs, policies, procedures, and deadlines
  • The Supplemental Instruction Program is a peer tutoring program designed to enhance student performance and achievement in historically difficult classes
  • ACCESS (tutoring services) provides free, individualized tutoring in most 100 and 200 level general education courses
  • Coaching for Academic Success provides assistance with study skills such as textbook reading, time management, test preparation, and note-taking.

Counseling

  • CAHE Counseling Lab counselors are persons completing graduate degrees in counseling who can provide free counseling for a wide range of issues
  • Counseling & Student Developmen Center supports students in their academic, emotional, social, and cultural development
  • The Family Center of NIU provides a wide range of mental health services for NIU and the surrounding communities
  • Psychological Services Center provides psychological services to NIU and northern Illinois and serves as primary training for graduate students in the clinical psychology program at NIU

Health Services

Health Services provides a wide range of services including medical, psychiatric, laboratory, men’s and women’s health and more. Most services are free to fee-paying students
