Accomplished and nationally recognized faculty that are intensely involved in research or artistry and who are student centered and committed to engaged learning are essential to the future of NIU.  Our faculty are the heart of this great academic institution and the Faculty Work, Excellence, and Rewards Work Group is charged with developing key measures to ensure NIU continues to attract and retain the best professors possible.

Issues and Measures

The types of issues and measures the work group might consider include:

  • Goals for competitive Faculty Salaries in relation to NIU’s peer group of universities.
  • External Funding goals for research active faculty in areas of study where federal, state and private support is available.
  • Goals for increases in patents, licenses and spin off companies resulting from university research
  • Goals for percentage of faculty gaining national recognition and awards for their work in teaching, research, and service
  • Goals for faculty contributing to the solution of regional problems.
