There’s Good Friday and Easter Sunday. What happened on the day in between—the day uncommonly known as Holy or Black Saturday?
This award-winning play begins inside the barricaded room where Christ’s disciples hide in terror following the horrific and earth-shattering events on Golgotha. They are not exactly sure what has happened. How did they get there? Are they in danger of being killed because of their association with the arrested One? As they try to piece together the meaning of their Master’s life and legacy, their stories and testimonies remind us all that the apostles and companions of Jesus were first of all real people; arguing, coming to consensus, questioning their spiritual commitment, and coping with, but nevertheless forever changed by, personal tragedy. Visky’s play is a dark comedy about faith, friendship, and the complexity of memory.
Author Visky, an inmate for several years, weaves the stories of prisoners from the Romanian Communist gulag, one of the worst in the former Soviet bloc, into the story of Christ’s terrified disciples.
