Tomfoolery

words and music of Tom Lehrer

adapted by Cameron Mackintosh and Robin Ray

Tomfoolery is a musical revue based on the lyrics and music of Tom Lehrer, which he wrote and first performed in the 1950s and 1960s.

The revue features twenty-eight of Lehrer’s satirical songs. Known for their “witty naughtiness,” most of the show’s numbers are not singalongs, but the hoot ‘n’ holler, “all together now” approach creates the perfect frame of mind for taking in Lehrer’s frat-boy humor. In addition to silly, hyperintellectual lyrics, Lehrer’s humor loves the dissonance between tone and content—nasty, cynical lyrics are set to light soft-shoe or raucous burlesque. A fun evening of pure irreverence.
