The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence

By Madeleine George

September 27 - October 1, 2017

A finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer prize for Drama, The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence expertly weaves three tales spread across three centuries; All of which concern men or machines named Watson.

Watson: brilliant Jeopardy! champion super-computer; historical engineer who worked on Alexander Graham Bell’s first telephone; loyal comrade to Sherlock Holmes; a modern-day technology geek simply looking for love. Where does one Watson end and the other begin? The lines between the four are blurred and knitted across time as historical patterns repeat themselves.

In this day in age, it is vital to consider what is more important: an internet connection, or a human one? As one of our Watsons so eloquently explains, “Connection isn’t elegant, or precise, or rational. But it’s our fate to be bound up with one another, isn’t it?”

This witty, time-jumping, and perhaps cautionary tale is dedicated to the people (and machines) upon which we depend.
