By the Bog of Cats

 By Marina Carr

April 11-15, 2018

Set in the ghostly bogs of rural Ireland, By the Bog of Cats is the Irish retelling of the famed ancient tragedy, Medea.

Since the age of seven when her mother abandoned her, Hester Swane has been discarded and betrayed all her life. Now as a grown woman, she is faced with betrayal once more. Carthage, her long-time lover, and father to her daughter, is leaving them behind to marry waif Caroline Cassidy for the promise of wealth and respect. Up against the prospect of losing everything she’s managed to lay claim to, Hester sets out to fiercely guard what is rightfully hers with a recklessness that threatens to destroy everything she’s trying to protect.

Fascinating characters fill the mysterious bog, all of whom have a piece of Hester’s fate in their hands. By the Bog of Cats is a whirlwind of a tale of greed, murder, betrayal, and self-sacrifice that you won’t want to end.
