Almost, Maine

by John Cariani

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. When the "other shoe" literally drops from the sky, and love can be found inside two red velvet bags, perhaps there is some magic in the air of this delightful midwinter night’s dream.

Written by Tony Award nominated actor John Cariani (Law and Order) as audition pieces for himself,Almost, Maine is eleven linked vignettes about romantic love and all its pathos, bruised knees, and broken hearts, as well as its romance, heartfelt connections and hope.

Dramatic Magazine’s Top 10 school produced plays for 2009-2010 listed Almost, Maine number one, bumping Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the number two spot.

"… The New York Times said Almost, Maine will either evoke "awww’s or ick’s, depending on your affection for its whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance. Magical happenings bloom beneath the snowdrifts."

"A charmer…Unexpected magic lingers in the air like someone’s breath on a cold winter’s night.

John Cariani aims for the heart by way of the funny bone." —Star-Ledger.

"Utterly endearing. . . It’s hard not to warm up to ALMOST, MAINE. A crowd-pleaser." —
