Autumn Eckman,an Atlanta native, is currently serving as assistant artistic director and resident choreographer of Giordano Dance Chicago. She received her classical training from the Houston Ballet Academy, Atlanta Ballet, Tom Pazik and Susan Bebee.
Autumn began her performance career with the Cangelosi Dance Project, and has danced with renowned companies Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Giordano Dance Chicago, Luna Negra Dance Theater, Lucky Plush Productions, and State Street Ballet. Currently, she is a member of Ron De Jesus Dance and RPM Productions.
She been commissioned to choreograph for DanceWorks Chicago, Grand Valley State University, Western Michigan University,University of Kansas, KRESA, State Street Ballet and State Street Ballet Young Dancers, Berrien County Dancers, Chicago Repertory Ballet, Missouri Contemporary Ballet,Contemporary Dance South, Inaside Chicago Dance, Momenta, NoMi LaMad, Vittaca Dance Project and Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company as part of New Dance Partners by Michael Uthoff.
She was awarded Dance Chicago's "New Artistic Voice" of 2009, "Standout Choreographer" for 2010 in the Chicago Tribune, and Dance Magazine's Editor In Chief, Wendy Perron named her work, "JOLT" as among the best choreography of 2012.
Autumn is dedicated to training, coaching and mentoring dancers in classical ballet, modern, jazz and contemporary dance. Many of her students have placed in the Youth American Grand Prix Competiton including First Place in 2012 for the contemporary category.
She is on faculty at the Lou Conte Dance Studio and Visceral Dance Center, and regularly guest teaches for companies and high schools in the Chicagoland area. Autumn teaches at festivals and workshops both nationally and internationally including the Bates Dance Festival, Jazz Dance World Congress, ACDFA, Illinois High School Dance Festival, State Street Ballet Summer Intensive, Florida Dance Festival and Summer Dance Lab in Walla Walla, WA.
