Applicants to NIU's School of Nursing
Effective immediately, nursing applicants must successfully achieve a reading comprehension score that is in compliance with the School of Nursing’s standard. Applicants with an ACT Reading Score of 24 or higher are considered to be in compliance with this standard. Applicants with an ACT Reading Score of less than 24 may take the ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension Exam. It is the policy of the School of Nursing that students may take this exam twice with no minimum interval between administrations. If a student takes the exam more than twice, only test scores from their first two administrations will be used in making admissions decisions.
The ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension Exam measures your ability to understand what you read. It is administered on computer and should take less than one hour. Applicants may register to take the ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension Exam at NIU's Testing Services (815-753-1203) for a fee of $20. Applicants may also register to take the ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension Exam at any of the following community colleges.
