THE ENDURING LEGEND OF MARINKA PINKA AND TOMMY ATOMIC

A New Work by Oana-Maria Cajal, Directed by Joanna Settle

THE ENDURING LEGEND OF MARINKA PINKA AND TOMMY ATOMIC is a provocative comedy of an ironic sort. It takes place in a camp where refugees from Eastern Europe await the final step of the immigration process: determining where in the West they will be allowed to live. Here they dream of the West and the allure of its wealth and glamour while they all the while look back nostalgically on their native lands, remembering them through a romantic haze that obscures the realities of life in the East. It is a comedy for anyone who has ever longed to be somewhere other than where they are. It is a comedy for anyone who has ever felt stuck. And significantly, the recent events in the former Yugoslavia only serve to make Ms. Cajal's work more relevant and timely.
