Oxfam America Hunger Banquet

One in seven people goes to bed hungry each night. The Oxfam hunger banquet can show you first-hand what that will look like. When guests arrive, they'll draw an income level and receive a meal that corresponds to that level. Following the meal, everyone will talk about their thoughts and how we can take action on NIU's campus to eliminate hunger.

Not everyone will leave full, but everyone will leave with a greater awareness of what others go through every day. (RSVP required.)

Feed My Starving Children Service Project

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and FMSC ships the meals to nearly 70 countries around the world.

Work site is located at Cornerstone Christian Academy (355 North Cross Street, Sycamore). Volunteers must stay home if they are not feeling well or if they have severe food allergies. Volunteers must wear closed toe shoes. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their cameras! You are welcome to take pictures of our group during times directed by the FMSC Team Leaders.

Limited spots available!

Sponsored by: Student Activities, Kishwaukee College
Cornerstone Christian Academy, 10:00 am-Noon (Volunteers MUST arrive by 9:45 am!)
Attendance: Free but space is limited!
For more information or to register, contact Allison von Ende at Allison.VonEnde@kishwaukeecollege.edu.

Box City

Close out the week by challenging yourself to live the life of a homeless person for one evening. We'll be erecting a Box City on the MLK Commons to provide space for those who want to demonstrate their commitment to providing funding and support for services for the homeless population in DeKalb County. "Rent" your box for $5.00 and bundle up for an evening of discussion, reflection, and community. Can't join us for the night? Stop by to drop off food for our active citizens or monetary/non-perishable donations.
