Registering a Student Organization

You can register an organization by following the steps below:

  1. Log into Huskie Link and enter your ZID and password.
  2. Click on Organizations near the top of the page.
  3. On the left side of the page you’ll see “Register a New Organization.” Click the Register button.

The site will take you through the remaining steps to register your organization. If you have to take a break from registering, you can get back to the registration you started by clicking on your name at the top right corner of the page and then selecting Involvement. Click on Submissions and then select the Organization Registrations tab. Click on the eyeball to return to your registration in process.

Some users have experienced difficulties with the field titled "Organization Web Site URL." This portion of the registration form is asking for the URL you would like your organization to have within the Huskie Link system. For example, the Student Association has their own website which is, but they also have a URL for their Huskie Link page, which is We recommend entering an abbreviation of your organization's name for this field.

Advisors must complete the Advisor Agreement. Additionally, if your organization intends on reserving meeting spaces or venues on campus, two officers must complete the Accounts Receivable Authorization Form.

Registering an Event

You can register an event for your organization by following the steps below:

  1. Go to your organization’s page on Huskie Link.
  2. Click on Events.
  3. Click on the Create Event button.
  4. Fill out all the information and proceed through the registration form.

If the Create Event button is not visible on your screen, your organization’s president (or another officer with the appropriate permission) must give you permission to register events for your organization.

When you are submitting on-campus social events through Huskie Link, please remember that you must have your President, Advisor, and Treasurer (or Accounts Receivable officer) review and approve the event before NIU’s Social Events Committee can approve the event. These approvals from your organization must occur AT LEAST two weeks prior to your event.

To do this, click your name in the top right corner of Huskie Link. Click the Review tab under your name, then click the event that needs to be reviewed and approved. There, you will see the following question under the Review heading: “Do you recommend the approval of this event ?” Click “Yes” in order to officially review and approve the event.

If you are not seeing your event under the Review tab, please make sure that your officers are up to date within the Huskie Link system! If they are not, you can fill out the Student Org Officer update form under the Campus Links tab at the top of the Huskie Link homepage.

Assigning an Officer Role to a Member

It is important to maintain an updated organization roster so individuals within and outside your organization know the appropriate person to get in touch with. You can assign organization members to an officer role by following the steps below:

  1. Go to your organization’s page on Huskie Link.
  2. Click on Roster.
  3. Click on the Manage Roster button.
  4. Click the Edit Positions button next to the person’s name that you want to assign a position.
  5. Select the position(s) you want the person to hold and click Save.

In order to update the organization's advisor, the advisor must complete the Advisor Agreement.

Creating a New Officer Role

If your organization has a position within the organization that is not in the list of positions available to assign, you can create the position and assign it positions accordingly. You can do this by following the steps below:

  1. Go to your organization’s page on Huskie Link.
  2. Click on Roster.
  3. Click on Manage Positions.
  4. Click on the Create New Position button.
  5. Type in the position’s title and select the appropriate remaining options. Then click Create.

Assigning or Changing Huskie Link Permissions for Officers

You can change Huskie Link permissions for your organization officers. This enables you to determine which officers are able to complete functions such as changing your organization’s profile, add/remove members from roster, send messages to members, and register events. You can do this by following the steps below:

  1. Click on Roster.
  2. Click on Manage Positions.
  3. Click on the name of the position.
  4. Under Set Management Access, select No AccessAll Access, or Limited Access.
  5. Click Save.
