Getting involved in college is the first step to a successful undergraduate experience. There are many ways to get involved, including fraternity & sorority life. The countless benefits to becoming a member of a fraternity or sorority include:
Students who are members of Greek letter organizations have been shown to graduate at a higher rate and with higher GPAs than students who don't join Greek life. At NIU, 23% of Greek students earned a 3.5 GPA or higher in Spring 2016, and 50% earned at least a 3.0 GPA.
A fraternity or sorority can help personalize your student’s college experience by offering a scholastic support system, hands-on experience in leading committees, exposure to potential careers through discussions with alumni, the chance to give back to the community through service projects, and close friends that will support them in good and bad times throught college and the rest of their lives. With all these opportunities available to them, it is no wonder that fraternity and sorority members tend to graduate from college at a higher rate, and with higher GPAs than those men and women not involved in fraternities or sororities.
Because of these opportunities, we encourage you to engage your student in a conversation about their intentions to participate in Fraternity and Sorority Life. We are committed to ensuring that Fraternity and Sorority Life at Northern Illinois University remains a positive and healthy component of student life. Please feel free to contact us for any additional information or concerns you may have pertaining to Fraternity and Sorority Life. We look forward to your continued partnership with us in support of student success.
