Matthew J. Streb is associate professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at Northern Illinois University.
He is the author of two books, The New Electoral Politics of Race (University of Alabama, 2002) and Rethinking American Electoral Democracy (Routledge, 2008), and the editor or co-editor of five others including Running for Judge (New York University Press, 2007) and Academic Freedom at the Dawn of a New Century (Stanford University Press, 2006). Streb has published numerous articles and book chapters, including pieces in Political Research Quarterly, Public Opinion Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, Election Law Journal, and American Politics Research.
His research has been featured on C-Span’s Washington Journal, and has been mentioned in such places as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Washington Times, Washington Monthly, and Chronicle of Higher Education. He is the editor of the book series "Controversies in Electoral Democracy and Representation" and the book review editor for Congress and the Presidency.
Streb received his PhD from Indiana University in 2000.
