The two task forces met at 9 a.m. in 315 Altgeld Hall. Ms. Mallory Simpson, President of the NIU Foundation and Chief Development Officer, and Mr. Joe Matty Executive Director of the NIU Alumni Association and Office of Alumni Relations, provided an overview of their activities and how outcomes from the two task forces could be integrated into their activities. They focused on the need for enhanced engagement between various university constituents and the alumni, especially since the tragic events of February 14. Their presentation ended at approximately 10 a.m. At that time the two task forces separated with members of the curricular innovation task force meeting in room 225 Altgeld.
The Curricular Innovation task force met and discussed the most recently revised set of goals/strategies/initiatives that Changnon had prepared based on feedback from various members of the group. The discussions led to a number of changes to strategies under Goals 3 (Actively Engage Students in Their Own Learning) and 4 (Improve Upon and Maintain High Quality Teaching Effectiveness Among Faculty and Staff). Individuals within the group were asked to provide feedback on changes made to the goals/strategies/actions by Friday, April 11. The next scheduled meeting of the entire task force is April 25. The meeting ended about 12:30 p.m.
The Student Success Task Force discussed a draft of the final report which is a work in progress. The group agreed on changes for several items in the report and discussed others. It was determined that the Student Success Task Force would meet again on April 11, 2008, to continue this discussion. The meeting ended at 12:00 p.m.
