Global Leadership Camp: In cooperation with External Programming of CLA&S, International Programs and Political Science designed a five-day residential summer camp for area high school students to address global issues during summer 2011. Site visits for new study abroad programs: We requested proposals from NIU faculty and staff to conduct site visits to venues that diverse students might find attractive. Study Abroad Travel Grants: In Phases Two and Three we provided $39,575 in travel grants to a total of 64 participants in for-credit study abroad programs Active recruiting in Asia: |
Global Leadership Camp: Because the camp hasn’t yet been run, we don’t have any outcomes to report except that it’s ready to be delivered in summer 2012. Site visits for new study abroad programs: Although we had targeted summer 2011 for these programs to be offered, two of the three programs are now designed and will be offered for the summer 2012 session. Once the programs have successfully run, we will assess again the diversity of our participants and will hope to show increases in that metric from these programs. Study Abroad Travel Grants: As we had predicted, this strategy helped increase the diversity of those students participating in study abroad, and also led to increased total participation. One outcome we had not predicted in strategic planning was the number of volunteer hours contributed by recipients to promoting study abroad; this has resulted in more peer-to-peer advising on study abroad and has assisted us to increase our numbers of participants. Active recruiting in Asia: As we had predicted, first-semester fall enrollments of students from China increased from 7 in AY2010 to 12 in AY2012; we have also generated increased applications and admissions, and total enrollment of Chinese undergraduate students has increased from 21 in AY2009 to 33 in AY2012. No effects have yet been observed from the one recruiting tour of SE Asia, and none were yet expected or predicted. |
