TEACHER QUALITY: Preparation of New Educators
Deliverables: Report on employer need for educators; Identification of skill sets needed by future teachers
Impact: NIU teacher education programs aligned with market factors

Deliverables: Public event to develop vision; six PDS development teams meeting
Impact: Broad-based community support for a new DHS that prepares graduates for 21st century global competition

Deliverables: Partnerships formed, customized school interfaces designed, classroom interventions developed

Deliverables: Community of scholars and research groups established; organizational plans completed; seminar series & CGS planned.

Phase Two – P-20 Initiatives
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT: Interdisciplinary Literacy Program
Deliverables: Program implemented in 5 districts; joint Literacy and S/L/H clinical interventions added
Impact: Literacy proficiency raises performance and improves student behavior
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT: STEM Outreach
Deliverables: STEM Outreach provides school presentations; extra-curricular activities; campus visits, camps, and competitions; professional development for teachers; and maintains a national presence.
Impact: STEM Outreach increases interest in STEM subjects for 4,000 students & teachers, recruits students to NIU
TEACHER QUALITY: Preparation of New Educators
Deliverables: NIU curriculum revisions underway
Impact: Curricula and enrollments coordinated with marketplace; NIU candidates fully prepared for reality of today’s classrooms
TEACHER QUALITY: PDS (DHS-NIU)
Deliverables: HS PDS design implemented at old DHS building; three-year planning process continues; RTI professional development
Impact: NIU PDS interns at DHS; joint teaching and research underway; NIU courses integrate RTI skills as appropriate.
RESEARCH AND EVALUATION: Data for School Innovation
Deliverables: Partnerships established & pilot implementations initiated
Impact: Professional development and decision data improve achievement
RESEARCH AND EVALUATION: Language and Literacy Institute
Deliverables: Proposal writing, research synthesis, pilot research, community outreach, business plan, & seminar series implemented; curricular approval process for CGS initiated and students recruited; summer academy for grad students launched.
