Add some wonder to your weekend!

STEM Saturday classes help students explore interesting topics through hands-on activities and exciting demonstrations. Parents are encouraged to attend students' classes and get in on the fun. This season’s offerings include Lego Robotics, circuit building, computer programming, and STEM activities for young divas.

STEM Divas

Brainy is beautiful! Mechanical engineer Pettee Guerrero adds some sparkle to our Saturday classes by leading students in sassy STEM activities such as using chemistry to create lip gloss, manufacturing rings and earrings on a 3D printer, decorating hats with littleBits electronics, weaving bracelets with conductive thread, and much more!  (Recommended ages 8 to 10)

Join the Maker Movement with Arduinos

Our first STEM Saturday classes to be open to adults as well as students!  Arduinos are tiny computers that you can program to control everything from lights and sensors to 3D printers and satellites. Because their designs are open-source, Arduinos are at the heart of the do-it-yourself and maker movement. In this class, you’ll learn the basics of creating circuits, functions, and variables, and then program Arduinos to control motors and sensors and plot data and graphs. You’ll even get to create your own Arduino-powered gizmo!  Participants will also have the opportunity to purchase their own Arduino board during the class so they can bring their creations home and continue the fun.  (Recommended ages 12 to adult)

DeKalb Course: Morning session:  9:00-Noon: February 21 and February 28

  • $59 for the first student registered for 2-class session*

Naperville Course: Morning Session: 9:00am-Noon or Afternoon: 1:00-4:00pm: March 21 and March 28

  • $79 for the first student registered for 2-class session*

STEM Jr.

This class is designed to teach younger students about engineering and design, as well as inspire confidence and imagination.  Students will use a variety of materials and tools to construct projects which will allow them to work together to solve fun building challenges.  (Recommended ages 6 and up)

DeKalb Course Only:  Morning Session: 9:00-Noon: February 21 and February 28

  • $59 for the first student registered for 2-class session*

Holography

Come explore the science of light, optics, and holograms!  Over the course of 2 Saturdays, students will do experiments to study the nature of light, and will even get to make their own holograms to take home and keep!  There is a $10 additional fee for this class to cover the cost of the hologram materials.  Each student will also get a keychain laser to view their hologram. (Recommended ages 10 & up)

Build a PVC Construction Kit

Parents!  Create a PVC pipe play set to encourage the creativity and spatial reasoning of your imaginative child. Learn to use simple, inexpensive supplies like PVC piping to create interactive building sets. Bring your children (aged 4+) along and they will spend the morning exploring ways to use the play set while you are busy using our tools to create a set to take home.  The fee includes $30 of materials to build a kit as well as the instruction and use of the tools.  Additional materials to build a set sized for fort building will be available for purchase (cash or check only) the day of the class.

DeKalb Course Only:  Morning Session: 9:00-Noon: March 21

  • $59 (includes the $30 for materials.)

LEGO Robotics Engineering Challenge II

In part 2 of our LEGO engineering challenge, we'll pick up where we left off in part 1, and move on to even more challenging projects and problems using the LEGO EV3 robots.  This class will require more math skills than the previous session to complete the challenges, so please keep that in mind when registering.  (Recommended ages 10 & up)
