Add some wonder to your weekend!

STEM Saturday classes help students explore interesting topics through hands-on activities and exciting demonstrations. Parents are encouraged to attend students' classes and get in on the fun. This season’s offerings include Lego Robotics, circuit building, computer programming, and STEM activities for young divas.

  • DeKalb classes meet at Swen Parson Hall, Room 146, Normal Rd., DeKalb, IL 60115
  • Naperville classes meet at NIU Naperville, 1120 E. Diehl Rd., Naperville, IL 60563

Courses

Introduction to LEGO EV3 Robotics (Recommended ages 10 & up)
We’ll use LEGO EV3 robots to complete a series of training missions that familiarize students with the robots’ operations, capabilities, and programming environment.  Students who want to take the LEGO EV3 Space Challenge should attend this class unless they have experience with these kits.

Join the Maker Movement with Arduino! (Recommended ages 13 & up)
Arduinos are tiny computers you can program to control everything from flashing lights to satellites. Learn the basics of circuits, functions, and variables, and then control motors and sensors and plot data and graphs. You’ll even get to create an Arduino-powered gizmo!

LEGO EV3 Robotics: Space Challenge (Recommended ages 10 & up)
Landing humans on the surface of the red planet is a lot of work, but planning the mission with LEGO EV3 Robotics is a lot of fun! The LEGO Space Challenge will develop students' programming and problem solving skills as they work in teams to complete 6 missions over the course of 3 sessions.

STEM Divas (Recommended ages 8 to 13)
Brainy is beautiful! Add some sparkle to your Saturday classes by using chemistry to create lip gloss, manufacturing rings and earrings on a 3D printer, decorating hats with littleBits electronics, and weaving bracelets with conductive thread.

Computer Programming with Scratch (Recommended ages 10 & up)
Learn to use Scratch, a fun and intuitive programming environment that makes it easy to create and share your own animations, presentations, apps, and even games!
