
NIU's Digital Convergence Lab hosts camp sessions for middle school children interested in animation, computers, 3D virtual worlds, or video games. Explore some "hard fun" at one or both weeks of Games Camp. Each week will focus on a totally different technology so that students can sign up for either or both weeks. The purpose of the Exploring Careers in Health and Human Sciences Camp is to provide high school students opportunities to explore careers in healthcare through hands-on learning experience about health professions careers, and to show them the opportunities available in health professions. Students will also receive information about education and training, academic requirements, financial aid, and campus life. The faculty for the camp is comprised of health professions faculty, health professionals currently in practice, and health professions college students. The Introduction to Nanotechnology Summer Camp is a week-long day camp that provides a unique opportunity for high-school students to explore the amazing and dynamic world at the nano scale on the campus of Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL. This camp gives a broad overview of nanoscience/nanotechnology as a field with many career opportunities. Nanotechnology concerns the control of matter in the nanometer scale: one nanometer is one billionth of a meter, or 100,000 times smaller than a human hair. This cutting-edge field has become an interdisciplinary STEM field. The camp fee covers all materials and supplies; daily lunch, snacks, and a T-shirt. Sorry! Registration is closed. Are you interested in working with robots? No prior experience is necessary!! This week long residential camp on the campus of Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL will provide an opportunity for incoming middle school students, to expand their creative interest in LEGO building elements while peaking their technological curiosity. Participants will learn to how to build and program robots using the LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotics system. Using the LEGO Mindstorms software, the participants will learn how to make the robot do the basic moves, turns using the light, touch, sound and ultrasonic sensors. Activities would include everything from simple controls, interfacing sensors and accomplishing various tasks, such as navigating a maze, go in search of light etc. Each team will have to accomplish multiple tasks that increase in difficulty throughout the week. Participants interested in robotics competitions such as FIRST LEGO League would benefit as they would get a head start from this camp. This camp uses inventive & creative thinking to incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math into fun and memorable experiences. Sorry! Registration is closed. Check back next summer.
