Founded in 1984, Centre
For Women's Research (CENWOR) is a nongovernmental organization
dedicated to facilitating the realization of the full potential
of women in achieving equality in all spheres of life. CENWOR was
formed by a group of academics, researchers, and activists who were
involved in action-oriented programs and studies related to women.
It is committed to enhancing women's participation in development,
assisting in the implementation of measures for realizing women's
equality, bringing about changes in social attitudes regarding women,
awareness raising, consciousness creation, human rights, and many
more. CENWOR's roster of activities includes: evaluation of development
projects relating to women, exploring alternative approaches to
development with special reference to women, raising the consciousness
of the political and community leadership, providing a forum for
exchange of ideas and experiences related to women and social issues.
CENWOR has had partnerships with several international organizations
over the years in implementing a vast array of development projects
directed at improving the cause of women, including, UNIDO, CIDA,
NORAD, ESCAP, INSTRAW, UNESCO, Commonwealth Secretariate, etc. The
collaboration with the proposed project has been planned to build
on the rich experiences of CENWOR in making women as direct participants
of grassroots democracy and advocacy strengthening process.
