Applying for Graduate School in Sociology at NIU

1. You will need to take the GRE. You can learn more about the GRE at www.ets.org.  You must study for this exam. There are books available, on-line sample tests and entire courses you can take.  Look into these study options. The sociology program at NIU prefers applicants with a minimum of 1000 total - 450 (150 on the new system) on the verbal and 600 (148 on the new system) on the quantitative sections of the GRE.


2. The Graduate School at NIU requires at least a 2.75 undergraduate GPA for admission; we prefer applicants with a 3.0 GPA.
