Sociology Program Requirements

• GRE:  You will need to take the GRE. You can learn more about the GRE at www.ets.org.  The sociology program at NIU prefers applicants with a minimum of 150 (450 on the old scoring system) on the verbal and 148 (600 on the old system) on the quantitative sections of the GRE.

• GPA:  The Graduate School at NIU requires at least a 2.75 undergraduate GPA for admission; we prefer applicants with a 3.0 GPA.

A complete graduate application includes

• Complete Application
• Payment of the $40 application fee
• Official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning attended
• Required Test Scores (Academic Advisor)
• Career Goals Statement (Academic Advisor)
• Letter of Recommendation (Academic Advisor)
