Kaliah Smith is currently a senior as a Fashion Merchandising Major and Dance Minor here at Northern Illinois University. She was born in Chicago but raised in the small town of Bolingbrook Illinois graduating from Bolingbrook High School in 2010.Soon after she then applied to NIU and was accepted by the CHANCE Program. Upon her arrival to NIU Kaliah was nervous and anxious to start a new chapter and get involved quickly. She began attending various activities on campus while still maintaining her focus on her studies.  She proudly sat as a Senator on the 44th annual Student Association Senate board in her junior year and became an active member of the Campus Life and Greek Life Committee.

Kaliah ventured out and became the secretary for the Athletic Student Involvement Committee strategizing ways on how to reach out to the students with advertisements and promotions in support of our various school sports teams.  Her first year as a senator sparked her desire to want to see changes happen on this campus that she cared about so much. Not only did she show her care on campus but participating in numerous community services outside of the school a few include:

  • the Ronald McDonald’s  House of Charities,
  • Feed em’ soup kitchen
  •  Target Community and Education service, Inc.

By Kaliah Smith taking on her role as the new Vice President she wants to create a comfortable environment for student orgs to ask an questions and/or concerns they may have about the development of their organization. As well as bringing more awareness to this campus about what kind of opportunities the SA can provide to new or existing organizations and actively being on campus connecting with her fellow huskies.

Kaliah is very excited and prepared to make this year the best year Northern Illinois University has ever seen. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact her at ksmith9@niu.edu  or call at 815-753-0208.
