  • NIU 3R Program collects pop tabs for the One Step At A Time camp.  This camp is for children with cancer.  These children can be treated as normal kids and still receive their medical treatment from volunteer medical staff.  If you would like more information, contact Bill Pottinger, the Grant North foreman, at 753-1879.

For the past two years, Building Service Foreman of Grant North, Bill Pottinger has been helping the residence halls collect pop tabs. The funds make it possible for terminally ill children to go to these camps even if their family can not afford it.
In the 1997-1998 school year 52 lbs were collected.
In the 1998-1999 school year. It came out to be 338 lbs or about 432,640 pop tabs.
In 2000 a total of 184 lbs were saved.

  • Habitat for Humanity is also a beneficiary of NIU recycling.  Aluminum was recycled during football games and donated to Habitat for Humanity. The first time the recycling was offered was during the Homecoming game and tailgating.  Look for these receptacles at NIU home games.
