Personal Training

Personal Training is a one-on-one instruction program that focuses on education, motivation, and exercise adherence.  Personal trainers will tailor progressive exercise programs to meet the individual needs and interests of clients.  Clients are encouraged to independently continue with the exercise programs designed for them to enjoy the lifelong benefits of regular physical activity.

Personal training is available for students and Recreation Services members.  Sessions are held at the Student Recreation Center or Chick Evans Field House.  Scheduling is done cooperatively between the client and personal trainer.  Personal training packages can be purchased in person at the Student Recreation Center Service Counter.  Medical screening is required prior to participation in this program.

Why Hire A Trainer?

  • You are just beginning to embark on an exercise program and want a program designed to meet your personal fitness goals.  You also need to learn how to use the weight machines properly to gain the most from your workout.
  • You want a personal health/lifestyle educator who will provide you with fitness testing and improvement tracking throughout your program.
  • You need someone to motivate you, as well as give you proper progressions, while at the same time make your exercise program fun.
  • Your current program is no longer providing you with the results you want, and you need some exercise variety and motivation.
  • You are training for a specific event and want to enhance your performance through specificity of training.
  • You are post rehab or have other medical conditions that may need specialized attention in an exercise program.

Training Options

Clients can choose the option, or a combination of the training options, that is right for them.

  • Start From Scratch is a great way for those new to exercise to learn how to be successful and comfortable in the Cardio and Strength Training Room.  Trainers will design a well-rounded program specific to the client's needs and interests.
  • Weight/Fat Loss to improve body composition through safe and effective exercise.  A challenging, time efficient program focused on weight loss will be developed.
  • Build Size and Strength by adding more muscle to your physique quickly and effectively.  Trainers will design a weight training program to build lean mass and increase personal strength.
  • Balance and Core Training will improve posture and coordination, and decrease the risk of injuries.  Programs will focus on working and stimulating the abdominal and lower back muscles.
  • Sport Specific Training will improve running times, increase cycling endurance, or put power in your swing!  Training programs will be designed to enhance personal performance by focusing on movements specific to your sport.

One-On-One Yoga

One-on-one yoga is personalized yoga instruction in a private setting, taught at the client's pace and tailored to the client's own needs.  Personal detailed feedback and instruction that is more difficult to provide in a class setting can be given to clients in a one-on-one session.

One-on-one yoga is available for students and Recreation Services members.  Sessions are held at the Student Recreation Center.  Scheduling is done cooperatively between the client and yoga instructor.  One-on-one yoga packages can be purchased in person at the Student Recreation Center Service Counter.

Who Is One-On-One Yoga For?

  • People who are just beginning yoga and want to have personal instruction in form, technique, and safety.
  • People who are curious about yoga but may be shy about attending a larger class.
  • Intermediate to advanced yoga students who want to work more intensively on specific aspects of their yoga practice.
  • Those who suffer from a variety of specific physical conditions.  Examples may include respiratory or cardiac conditions, insomnia, anxiety, depression, arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, digestive disorders, and more.

Note:  Medical clearance from a healthcare provider may be required for personal training/one-on-one yoga clients with specific medical or psychological needs.
