Adventure Trips
Each semester the Outdoor Adventures program offers an assortment of trips to meet the needs of the NIU community. Trips are designed with the beginner in mind and are educational, challenging, and fun.
Important Information for Trips & Clinics
Pre-Trip Meetings
- Meetings are scheduled for all overnight and extended trips.
- Attendance at pre-trip meetings is required.
- Special circumstances may exempt a participant from attending a pre-trip meeting but the individual must make arrangements with the Assistant Director or Graduate Assistant for Outdoor Adventures prior to the scheduled meeting date.
- Sessions will include important information about trip schedules, equipment, health information, basic skills, and some pre-trip training.
Registration
Minimum Participation
- Minimum participation requirements are established for all trips and clinics.
- Trips and clinics not reaching minimum enrollment levels will be cancelled and registration fees will be refunded.
Assumption of Risk
- Outdoor adventure has an inherent risk of injury or death.
- Recreation Services trips and activities are conducted with safety in mind; however, participants are also responsible for their own safety.
- Northern Illinois University, Recreation Services, the Outing Centre, and its employees assume no liability for damages that arise during or from participation in Outdoor Adventure programs.
Refunds, Transfers, and Cancellations
- Refunds are only given for cancelled trips or clinics, or for a documented medical situation.
- Trip or clinic registrations can be transferred to another participant by the Outdoor Adventures staff if requests are made prior to the registration deadline.
