Massage Therapy

Massage is the systematic and scientific manipulation of body tissues for the purpose of affecting the nervous, muscular, visceral, circulatory, and digestive systems.  The general effects of massage include stimulation of the circulatory and nervous systems, improved organ function, elevated cellular activity, enhanced muscle and general body tone, as well as improved digestion and absorption of nutrients.

Acupressure

Acupressure is based on an ancient Chinese healing method that involves applying pressure to certain meridian points on the body to relieve pain.  The human body has fourteen "meridians" that carry energy throughout the body.  Acupressure deals not only with the body but the emotions, mind, and spirit as a whole, as opposed to separate parts.  It reduces muscular tension and balances the vital life forces (chi) of the body.

No needles are used during an acupressure appointment!  Acupressue is different from acupuncture!

Reiki

Reiki is a relaxing experience and an effective stress reducer.  The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words-Rei which means "higher power" and Ki which is "life force energy."  Reiki is spiritually guided life energy, an energy which animates us all and is found all around us.

Reiki helps to harmonize body, mind, and spirit.  It is a spiritual practice that can aid in healing on many levels.  Mikao Usui developed his own system of Reiki in the early part of the 20th century.  He taught many people who continued his work, and Reiki continues to be practiced in Japan today.  A Hawaiian of Japanese descent, Hawayo Takata is responsible for introducing Reiki to the Western World in the late 1930's.

During a Reiki treatment the practitioner uses a set pattern of hand positions, placed on or above the client, beginning with the crown of the head and working both the front and the back of the body.
