Recreation Services offers a variety of instructional wellness classes in the following areas:
PAR-Q form (complete and bring to your first class)
Dance/Dance Fitness
Hip Hop Jam
A highly energized pure hip hop dance class! Choreography will reflect the latest in hip hop movement and style. New dance routines will be taught each week that are bound to impress. Bring your attitude!

A fusion of dance and Pilates that will get your personal fitness program movin'! Choreographed dance routines will be taught each week in combination with a Pilates segment to strengthen and tone your core.

Fitness meets Latin dance! Join us for one of the hottest fitness trends happening today! This class is guaranteed to be tons of fun. Forget the workout, join the party!

Put your weight lifting routine to a beat! Take the boredom out of your workout in this combination weight lifting and body toning class choreographed for results and fun. Not your average toning class.

Instructional Yoga
Yoga Essentials
This class will outline the fundamentals of yoga practice, paying special attention to breath, alignment, meditation, and yoga philosophy.
All levels of experience are encouraged. Class will cover the origins of yoga, types of contemporary yoga, and its development in the Western world. Active participation in breathing, meditation and posture (Asana) will be a part of each class along with handouts and discussion. This class gives beginning yogis a framework and can deepen practicing yogis understanding of the system that is yoga.

Weight Management 101
Learn proven methods for avoiding unwanted weight gain, shedding pounds sensibly when necessary, and eating very healthfully through a variety of interactive sessions. Our nutrition staff will help you cut through the nitty-gritty, making for a healthy and successful experience at NIU and beyond! Class also includes a one-on-one goal setting session and assessment with a personal trainer.

Private Classes: Group Fitness and Cooking
Just For You TEAM Fitness
Participate in a fitness class exclusively for your group or any organization becasue Together Exercise Adds Motivation! Our fitness instructors will lead a private, semester-long class in a format of your choice- just for you and your friends. You supply the participants, we supply the fun! Class times and formats will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Private classes begin the week of September 6 (13 weeks)
- 10-14 participants, $27 each/15+ participants, $22 each
- Full roster of participants and payment is due two business days prior to the first class.
