FitPass Prices and Policies
FitPasses can be purchased with Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express online. Cash or check payments must be done at the Student Recreation Center Service Counter.
Unlimited FitPasses allow participation in any of the group fitness classes on the regular drop-in class schedule (Schedule One or Two). Annual Unlimited FitPasses are valid for both fall and spring semesters, and Semester Unlimited FitPasses are valid for the semester in which they are purchased (fall/spring). An Unlimited Mid-Semester FitPass is also available for classes on Schedule Two.
The 15- and 35-class FitPasses allow participation in any of the group fitness classes on the regular drop-in class schedules for the respective number of classes on the pass. Pilates/Yoga, Cycle, and Water Only passes are good for any of their respective classes on the schedule. All 15, 35, Pilates/Yoga, Water,and Cycle Only FitPasses are valid for the semester in which they are purchased. FitPasses can be upgraded prior to September 15 by paying the difference in the cost of the pass purchased and the upgrade. Upgrades must be done in person at the Student Recreation Center Service Counter.
Single FitPasses are good for any of the classes on the regular drop-in schedule. Recreation Services guests can purchase a Single class FitPass but must also pay the $8 Guest Pass fee to enter the Student Recreation Center.

PAR-Q Form (print and complete, bring to the Student Recreation Center 24 hours prior to taking your first class to activate your FitPass)
Once a FitPass has been purchased online, participants must bring a copy of his/her receipt and a completed PAR-Q Form to the Student Recreation Center Service Counter to get his/her OneCard activated. To be sure staff has time to activate the card, receipts/PAR-Q's should be dropped off 24 hours prior to the first class the participant would like to take. If a 24-hour turnaround is not possible, participants should still bring their receipt/PAR-Q to the Student Recreation Center Service Counter for assistance with accessing the first class.
Group Fitness Class Policies
- Classes on the schedule with consistently fewer than five participants may be cancelled at any time.
- Admittance to group fitness classes will not be allowed more than 10 minutes after the class has started. This is for the safety of those already exercising and for those entering late.
- A valid NIU OneCard must be presented for admittance into group fitness classes.
- Athletic shoes must be worn in all group fitness classes (except yoga or Pilates-based classes). Recreation Services reserves the right to turn away any participant who is wearing attire that compromises the safety of the participants in the class, including him/her self. Exceptions may be made for religious purposes.
FitPass Policies
- FitPasses are available for students and Recreation Services members. Non-members wishing to participate in group fitness classes must first purchase a Recreation Services membership.
- FitPasses are valid for the semester in which they are purchased. Annual Unlimited FitPasses are valid for the fall and spring semester of the academic year in which they are purchased.
- FitPasses are not transferable and cannot be shared between participants.
- Single class FitPasses are valid for any one class during the semester in which they are purchased. They do not have to be used on the day of purchase.
- Single class FitPasses must be surrendered to the Group Fitness Pass Checker. Pass holders will be charged a replacement fee of $5 for unused or lost Single class passes.
- Refunds for documented medical-related issues occurring after the date of the purchase of the pass will be honored. All other refund requests must complete the request as indicated in the Request for Refunds section below. Rationale for requesting a refund must be substantial to be considered.
FitPass Upgrades
- 15-class, 35-class, Yoga Cycle, and Water only FitPasses can be upgraded to an Unlimited FitPass prior to September 15 by paying the difference in the pass upgrade price. Upgrades must be done in person at the Student Recreation Center Service Counter.
Requests for Refunds or Replacements
- A Refund Request Form can be obtained at the Student Recreation Center Service Counter and must be submitted, with appropriate documentation, to initiate a refund. Recreation Services will process complete requests within four business days of receipt of the request.
- Written physician documentation for medical conditions must be provided at the time of a refund request.
- Approved medical-related refunds will be given at a weekly or per-class pro-rated rate for all FitPasses.
- Refunds will not be given for Single class FitPasses unless a medical condition prevents participation in a class at any other time during the semester in which the pass was purchased. In such cases, the Request for Refund process should be followed.
- Refund requests for reasons other than a medical condition can be documented on a Refund Request Form with an attached written or typed letter stating the reason for requesting a refund. Non-medical refund requests will be reviewed by the Assistant Director for Fitness/Wellness. The patron will be notified within five business days of a decision.
