Lynniece Carter-Sims
Graduate Assistant for Sport Clubs

Lynniece has been working for Recreation Services for five years.  She started as a Building Attendant and Facility Supervisor, and last year became a Graduate Assistant.  She has assisted with numerous special events, day-to-day facilities operations, and student employee hiring, training, and supervision.  Lynniece is assisting Recreation Services in the implementation of the sport clubs program, including work with club officers and members, facility scheduling, club recognition processes, and the development of a sport club council.

Karen Helm
Graduate Assistant for Fitness/Wellness

Karen has always been an avid campus recreation participant.  Prior to coming to NIU Karen worked in marketing in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Most recently she taught group fitness classes at the YMCA and at Xavier University in Cincinnati.  Karen's responsibilities with Recreation Services includes supervising and implementing the Group Fitness and Personal Training programs and the development and implementation of various wellness programs and services provided at the Student Recreation Center and across campus.

Jonathan Higdon
Graduate Assistant for Intramural Sports

Jonathan is in his second year as the Graduate Assistant for Intramural Sports.  Prior to NIU, he worked in recreation for four years at Austin Peay, spending his last two years there as a Supervisor with the Intramural Sports program.  Jonathan has officiating experience in flag football, basketball, soccer, softball, dodgeball, and volleyball.  In addition, he has experience working with numerous special events, including regional and state flag football and basketball tournaments.  He has officiated high school baseball for the past two years and will be officiating high school basketball this winter.  Jonathan assists with the Recreation Services Intramural Sports program in the areas of program development and management, including supervision of student supervisors and officials, league and tournament play, and special events.

Michael Lower
Graduate Assistant for Marketing

Michael comes to NIU with four years of experience working in recreational sports at Indiana University in the area of Intramural Sports.  He loves playing all sports both competetively and recreationally.  Michael's responsibilities in the area of Marketing include assisting with the promotion of all Recreation Services programs and services, managing the website, and sponsorship development.

Brad Szlezak
Graduate Assistant for Outdoor Adventures

Prior to coming to NIU Brad worked as the Outdoor Recreation Program Manager for Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.  He is an American Mountain Guide Single Pitch Instructor for rock climbing.  Brad loves the outdoor world, especially cooking, rock climbing, and playing rugby.  Brad works with the Recreation Services Outdoor Adventures program in the areas of program and trip development, trip leader training, and management of the Outing Centre.

Kevin Wenberg
Graduate Assistant for Open Recreation

Prior to joining the Recreation Services staff in the fall of 2007, Kevin was a Program Coordinator for the Health Fitness Corporation at ARAMARK.  He has additional experience as a Fitness Specialist, Personal Trainer, and a Cardiovascular Risk Screening Counselor at the Delnor Community Health & Wellness Center and the Geneva Park District.  Kevin's responsibilities with Recreation Services include supervising student employees and facility rentals, and assisting with facility operations and special projects.

Ashlea Wilson
Graduate Assistant for Open Recreation

Ashlea has been working in Campus Recreation for four years.  While at the University of Houston, she gained experience in the field working with the U of H recreation program as a Membership Services Intern, an Intramural Sports basketball referee, and a certified Personal Trainer.  Ashlea also served as the President of Pro Rec, a professional recreation organization at the U of H.  Ashlea's responsibilities with Recreation Services include supervising student employees and facility rentals, and assisting with facility operations and special projects.
