In our efforts to improve educator quality in Illinois, we have studied teachers' skill levels in a variety of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) areas. Recent survey research conducted by NIU documents professional development needs in math and science.
In addition, the Illinois Council on Economic Education upgrades the teaching of economics and personal finance in hundreds of classrooms throughout Illinois. The Council offers instructional units, the stock market game, and other activities to prepare students to be effective participants in our economy.
