Brian Harger joined the Institute in August 1998, working in the areas of economic and community development. He is responsible for managing the Center's demographic and economic databases, including the U.S. Census products. Brian also maintains the State Data Center Coordinating Agency and the Business and Industry Data Center (BIDC) programs.
Brian has a decade of experience in research and analysis for governments, public agencies and corporations. He formerly held research positions with Grubb & Ellis, a commercial real estate brokerage firm, and two regional economic development agencies in the Midwest.
Brian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Science degree in Economic Development from the University of Southern Mississippi. His professional associations include the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER), the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the Illinois Development Council, and the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU). Brian also serves on the Board of Directors of the Rockford River District Association and chairs its Economic Restructuring committee.
