Student Conduct

The NIU Police Department has several ways to address behavior that disrupts the normal learning environment. A partnership with NIU’s Student Conduct provides another mechanism to hold NIU students accountable regardless of where they are. This allows NIU Police to enforce laws without making a criminal arrest while still having a resolution for the victim. All NIU students are held to the standards adopted into the Student Code of Conduct. Student Conduct has review panels made up of students and staff members. Student Conduct can impose penalties up to expulsion from the university but nothing would relate to a criminal record.

If you are aware of an incident involving a NIU student which did not rise to a crime, you can submit an incident report with Student Conduct.
