DEKALB -- The Northern Illinois University College of Business Rockford Area Alumni Club has named Dan Loescher, president of LOESCHER & ASSOCIATES, LTD., Certified Public Accountants, this year’s recipient of the 2002 Distinguished Alumnus Award.
“The criteria for this award include community service, business and professional accomplishments and contributions to the College of Business and/or NIU; Dan Loescher excels in all three of those areas,” said Jeff Wallem, president of the Rockford Area Alumni Club. “He is a very fitting choice for this award.”
Loescher, who received a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from NIU in 1976, began his career at Coopers and Lybrand, ultimately becoming the managing partner and tax partner in charge of that company’s Rockford office. He started his own company, LOESCHER & Associates, Ltd., in 1994.
In addition to becoming a successful businessman, Loescher has also become a pillar of the Rockford community. Over the years he has served on six for-profit boards (including as chairman and CEO of one) and 20 boards for not-for-profit organizations, 12 of which he has served as treasurer or chairman.
“Dan doesn’t just sit on a board, he is a worker,” said Bob Nieman, who nominated Loescher for the award. “He is a likeable, outstanding guy who has really helped out in the community.”
Loescher has also been an ardent supporter of the NIU College of Business. He was instrumental in the founding of the school’s alumni chapter in Rockford and in the creation of that organization’s Outstanding Student Scholarship. That involvement is a reflection of his depth of feeling for the university.
“Northern provided me with the flexibility to pursue my educational goals in an environment that encouraged high personal achievement and growth and served as the foundation for my continuing professional success,” Loescher said. “There are a number of fine NIU graduates in Rockford devoted to service in this community and to the university, and it is an honor to be singled out for this award.”
Also this fall, Highland Community College (where he earned his associates degree) named Loescher its Distinguished Alumnus for 2002. He was named the NSFRE Outstanding Community Volunteer in 2000 and previously received the Rockford Community Foundation Trivet Award for Outstanding Service.
His business, LOESCHER & Associates, Ltd., Certified Public Accountants, specializes in individual, estate and gift taxation and planning, and serving the needs of closely held companies. Loescher and his wife Amy (also an alumnus of NIU) have three children and live in Rockford. Their eldest son, Christian, will graduate from the university next spring.
