Access to the Law Library by Non-Law-School Users
Section I. Item 9.
- Generally, the law library is open for use to all NIU faculty, staff, and students who have need for doing legal research and using legal materials. Given space limitations and the potential for heavy study hall usage by non-law students, it is not available to non-law students merely for general study not requiring the use of legal materials.
- Faculty, students, members of the legal profession, and the public shall have access to all library holdings with the exception of the computer-assisted legal research systems LEXIS and WESTLAW. Use of these systems is contractually restricted (by WESTLAW and LEXIS) to College of Law Students and faculty only.
- To facilitate law library use by NIU students, and to reduce instructional time for the law library staff, law library orientation programs are held. Faculty requiring their students to use the law library are encouraged to contact the law library to arrange an orientation program for their students.
