What is the Diverse Supplier Fair?

Northern Illinois University (NIU) is committed to supporting the economic development of ethnically and racially diverse businesses, and businesses owned and led by disabled or disadvantaged individuals. The Diverse Supplier Fair will offer an opportunity for business owners who are minority, female, and/or persons with disabilities to exhibit their commodities, supplies, and services to NIU faculty and staff, and to the communities surrounding NIU.

Who should attend?

  • Is at least 51 percent owned and controlled by a minority, woman, or person with a disability. The owners must be citizens of the United States or resident aliens.
  • Businesses that do not qualify as a diverse business, but that are interested in purchasing from diverse suppliers, or desire to mentor a diverse supplier.

Why should business owners attend?

Diverse Businesses: You will have an opportunity to showcase your business to regional businesses, both diverse and non-diverse. Diverse businesses include those that qualify under the following classifications

  • Illinois Business Enterprise Program (BEP)
  • Minority and Female Business Enterprise (MAFBE)
  • Veteran Owned Business (VBP)
  • Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB)
  • Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB)

Non-diverse Businesses: This event will present the variety and represent the capability of businesses throughout the northern Illinois region.

Purchasing Decision Makers: You are a decision maker for the products and services purchased by Northern Illinois University or the surrounding community, and you are searching for potential suppliers, both short-term and long-term.
