Northern Illinois University - Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow

President BakerBAKER REPORT: The doors to opportunity are open

As I’ve often heard from our alumni, coming to Northern Illinois University is the first step in a life-changing journey filled with opportunity that empowers our students to be successful in their chosen path—whether it be in their personal lives, careers or in lifelong pursuit of education.

A campus visit or open house visit is a part of that journey, and thus, Friday’s Admissions Spring Open House is a very important event for the NIU community.

We are expecting a very large turnout, and the Office of Admissions is seeking on-campus volunteers Friday morning to assist in making our visitors’ check-in experience go as smoothly as possible. I encourage participation in this important undertaking.

On-campus events such as Admissions open houses, the IHSA Football State Championships, the upcoming Illinois Junior Academy of Science state expo and NIU STEM Outreach’s STEMFest—among others—not only showcase our university to campus visitors from across the region and the state but offer a chance for engagement with our students, faculty, staff, alumni and our community.  Each interaction we have with our visitors is a chance for them to get to know NIU, our programs and our culture.

Let’s welcome our guests to be a part of the NIU family and extend them every courtesy as they explore all our campus has to offer.

Forward Together,

Doug
