Phi Beta Delta 2007 Inductees

Three Northern Illinois University political science students were inducted into the Zeta Gamma chapter of the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society. Ph.D. student Theresa Eckard and undergraduate majors Susie Thomas and Eldin Tringovski were inducted at a ceremony during NIU's Division of International Programs' international week. Rebecca Steffenson, an instructor in the political science department, was also inducted. Provost Raymond Alden spoke at the ceremony which recognizes the scholarly achievement of international students and scholars who have studied abroad and faculty and staff who are involved in international activities. Professor Kurt Thurmaier, also a member, represented the Political Science department at the event.

Phi Beta Delta, founded at California State University, Long Beach in 1986, was established as an organization in 1987 with 38 chartered chapters, many of which had existed for a considerable time previously at the local level. It is the first honor society dedicated to recognizing scholarly achievement in international education. As of December of 2007, 168 chapters have been chartered. Over 10,500 members have been inducted.
