Streb Receives NIU Foundation Award for Faculty Excellence
The Red and Black, the NIU Foundation's annual event celebrating philanthropy and NIU spirit and pride, was held at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center on Friday, February 28, 2008. With hundreds of donors, alumni, and friends in attendance, the event this year celebrated Faculty Excellence. Political Science Professor Matt Streb was one of only eight faculty members from the university community and the single individual from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences to be featured at The Red and Black event and receive a NIU Foundation Award for Faculty Excellence. Matt was nominated by one of our undergraduate political science majors, Meagan Szydlowski. Meagan cited the quality of Matt's classroom teaching, his effort to involve undergraduates in his research on judicial elections, and his work with student groups.
A portion of the program for the February 28 event read as follows.
"While a good professor is passionate about his subject, the truly inspired professor has the ability to ignite that passion in his students. According to junior Meagan Szydlowski, Associate Professor Matt Streb epitomizes the inspired professor...With a love of teaching and research -- and a talent for bring political science to life -- Professor Matt Streb both challenges and empowers his students to think beyond the confines of the classroom. And as the best professors can tell you, lessons that go beyond the classroom can also be the competitive edge that leads to great success in the real world."
