Why a General Education and Integrative Learning Symposium?

An open symposium was help on January 29, 2014, to roll out ideas for general education and caccalaureate curricular reform essential for improving educational quality and enhancing NIU’s mission of student success.  The symposium was hosted by the PLUS Task Force and the Office of the Provost.

President Doug Baker and Acting Provost Lisa Freeman made opening introductions, which was followed by a keynote address titled “Making the Most Out of General Education” by Dr. Thomas Steen. Steen is director of the University of North Dakota's Office of Essential Studies, an award-winning program in general education. (see more here).
