Getting To DeKalb

From Fermilab

The easiest way is to take I-88 west to the Annie Glidden Rd exit, north on Annie Glidden, and then right on IL-38/Lincoln Highway just after passing under the railroad tracks. There is a $3.60 ($1.80 with I-Pass) each way toll charge. The Annie Glidden exit is unmanned and you will need $1.05 in change if you do not have an I-PASS.

The quickest way is to take Kirk Rd north to Fabyan Parkway, then get to IL-38/Lincoln Highway either by going north on Randall Rd, or by continuing on Fabyan to Hughes Rd (turnoff to right with no stop sign) then north on IL-47 then west on Keslinger then north on County Line Rd and then west on IL-38. Then drive through DeKalb as NIU is on the west side.

From O'Hare - by car

The simplest but with the most tolls and depending on traffic usually the slowest is I-294 south to I-88 then west past Fermilab to Annie Glidden Rd as above.

A less expensive and usually faster is to take I-90 north to Rockford, exit south on IL-47 and then (simplest) west on IL-38 to DeKalb. Or take IL-47 and turn west on Plank Rd (stoplight at church) to Burlington Rd, north 50 ft and west again on Plank Rd. Plank is renamed Peace Rd after IL-23 and curves around Sycamore until you hit IL-64. West on IL-64 to either First St or Annie Glidden Rd, and then south on one of these until you get to IL-38.

From O'Hare - by limo

The cost is about $100 per peron one-way and you need to arrange prior to your arrival at O'Hare.

Parking at NIU

There is a garage on Normal Rd across from physics about 100 yards north of Lincoln Highway. You will need a parking pass on Monday and Tuesday. We will bring some to Fermilab and leave with Dmitri plus more will be available when you are at NIU. Note if you are staying at the NIU Hotel, they will give you a parking pass. Each pass is good for one day only. Please return any unused parking passes as they cost us $5 each.

By Train

Odds are no one will travel to the workshop by train but just in case the Union Pacific West line goes to Elburn which is on IL-38 15 miles east of DeKalb. As NIU is not in session bus service to DeKalb is not available and so anyone coming by train should contact a conference organizer and we will pick you up. Why the train service ends at a small town a few miles away from a much larger town is an oddity of local and state politics.
