Professor's
Description:
This course
provides students an opportunity to think through and discuss
competing views on a number of pressing moral issues. In
order to provide a framework for these discussions, the
course will begin with an overview of a number of different
moral theories and a framework for moral decision-making.
Throughout, the emphasis will be on thinking critically
about the issues: understanding the concepts involved, recognizing
the values at stake, and applying the various moral theories
to find potential solutions, among other things.

No
fundamental difference exists between systematic moral theory
and the reflection an individual engages in when he attempts
to find general principles which shall direct and justify his
conduct.

Dewey
