The class provides an introduction to foundational questions in philosophy including: arguments for and against the existence of God; the possibility of free will; and theories of our deeper nature (i.e. are we souls, minds, animals or brains?). Using this material, the class also focuses upon teaching students how to reconstruct other people’s arguments, evaluate arguments and eventually give arguments of their own.
A weekly Blackboard Assignment I mandatory before the Mid-Term. The grade for the class will be based upon a Mid-Term, a short paper and a Final Exam.
