Personal Professional Development: Julie Robertson informed us that Debbie Smith-Shank will be our November 3rd Networking Luncheon Speaker. She is still finalizing a speaker for the November 29th luncheon. Jan Rintala will be our speaker in February on Women in Sports. Mira Reisberg will also be speaking in the Spring Semester.
Research: Jan Rintala asked for feed-back on the ACE Agenda Recommendation Review Report draft members were asked to look at prior to this meeting. She was asked to clarify the paragraph on hiring progress. She will follow-up with Steve Cunningham and get clarification for members. Any other comments may be sent to the members of the committee: Virginia Cassidy, Barbara Burrell, or Jan Rintala. They would like to finalize this project and move on to other projects soon.
Awards and Recognition: Betty Baugh informed members that the deadline for Outstanding Women Student Awards nominations has been set for December 20, 2006; Wilma D. Stricklin Award nominations March 1, 2007; and Martha Cooper Journalism Award entries March 1, 2007. The Outstanding Women Student Awards and Wilma D. Stricklin Award will be presented Honors Day, April 15, 2007. The Martha Cooper Award will be presented at the Journalism Banquet in late April. We are pursuing additional funding to increase the monetary award for the Martha Cooper Award from $100 to $500 in hopes of increasing the amount of participation. We were thinking of approaching the SA for funding. Members suggested that we approach the Communications Department for funding first. Betty will contact Lois Self or Steve Ralston regarding this. Discussion of continuing the Amazing Women Award resulted in the consensus that this particular award should remain special and only be given periodically as a special event such as anniversary celebration. Since the first was in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the PCSW possibly on the 30th anniversary of the PCSW to repeat the award. The committee will meet again to look into other possible alternative awards. The final networking luncheon could be used to present these awards.
Women’s Resource Center Director’s position is now being advertised. It is on line at NIU Human Resource page and being advertised in the Chronicle of Higher Education. The selection committee is comprised of: Virginia Cassidy, Michelle Emmett, Anne Kaplan, Blanche McHugh, Darren Mitchell, and Josephine Umoren.
Amy Levin made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Lorraine Scurti seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Josephine Umoren adjourned the meeting at 2:05 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
