OLD BUSINESS

Affirmative Action Diversity Resources Report:   No report.

Campus Climate and Quality of Life:  No report.

Personal Professional Development:  Two Networking Luncheons are scheduled for Spring:  February 24, 2006 (Brigid Lusk) and March 31, 2006.  The March date will be placed on the Women’s History Month Calendar.  A speaker has not been finalized as of yet for the March luncheon.

Research:  No report.

25th Anniversary Gala Event:  Plans for the Gala are proceeding.  Rebekah Kohli is continuing to pursue speakers.  Stacy Allie suggested the Alumni Association be contacted for possible speakers if necessary.  A date has been set Thursday, April 27, 2006.  The Duke Ellington Ballroom has been reserved.  Entertainment is still being sought.  Caution was given to not over program because of the value given to networking at these types of events.  President Peters has committed $2,000 seed funding plus speaker cost to start.  Amy Levin made a motion that the PCSW commit $1,000 funding from our general funds and $1,000 funding from our 41 account committing a total of $2,000 toward the event.  Deborah Haliczer seconded the motion.  Motion was approved unanimously.  The consensus of the group was that the committee proceed with the arrangements of the event because of the time constraints.

Awards and Recognition:  Ninety-eight nominations have been received for the Outstanding Women Student Awards.  The deadline is Friday, January 13, 2006.  We have gotten three nominations for the 25 Amazing NIU Women Award nominations with a deadline of February 15, 2006.  The selection committee will consist of:  Stacy Allie, Kathy Hotelling, Sharon Howard, Denise Schoenbachler, and two past Stricklin recipients. Arrangements have been made to hang posters in the Holmes Student Center the last two weeks of January and Barbara Burrell has made arrangements for publicity through an article in the Northern Star. We need to remind colleagues of this award and encourage nominations.

NEW BUSINESS

A listing of the Women’s History Month 2006 events was distributes to all members.  This year’s theme is --Celebrating 25 years of Women’s Studies at NIU: Re-Imagining Sisterhood.

Stacy Allie informed us that National Women and Girls in Sports Day will officially be celebrated at NIU February 11, 2006.  All women and girls in uniform will have free admission to the game that day.  The Athletics department is working with the community to support this day.

Deborah Haliczer spoke to us regarding the Faculty Salary Equity Task Force Report Summary.  She was a member of the task force and was privy to the complete report.  She assured us that the summary did reflect the results of the actual findings from the qualitative and quantitative groups, however surprising it seems.   The report had positive results in that each college now has uniform assessment in place.   This did not mean that the PCSW should not continue to press for more data on women and improved mentoring programs.  A suggestion of surveying departments regarding available mentoring programs was made and contacting Faculty Development for more information on mentoring available through them.  We will also continue to request more detailed information on the final task force report.
