Dr. Anne C. Kaplan, Vice President of Administration, was the recipient of the 2001 Wilma D. Stricklin Award for Enhancement of the Climate for Women on Campus presented April 22, 2001. Dr. Kaplan has been instrumental in improving working conditions for university employees, particularly women. The awards committee and the individuals who nominated her wanted to acknowledge her many efforts on behalf of the women faculty, staff and students of NIU. Her behind the scenes initiatives have provided personal and professional support that has had significant impact on a diverse group of NIU women. Dr. Kaplan has provided leadership in making Northern a welcoming place for all women. Peggy Doherty, chair of selection committee, holding Dr. Kaplan was presented a plaque and a piece of art, Synergy 1, by Julia Sober. The piece is one of a series of five created especially for the Wilma D. Stricklin Award.
